Today, I want to share something with you.

Something that will save you a lot of time.

But I ask for one thing in return.

Use this new time for something valuable.

Maybe read a book.

Maybe sit outside and get some sunlight.

Maybe go to that new restaurant you’ve been wanting to try.

Maybe do that one hobby you love but haven’t had time for lately.

Whatever it is.

Just do something useful.

Here’s the thing.

Like a dry sub without water to wash it down.

Stop trying to rationalize irrational behavior.

Especially when it comes to money.

Period.

Because terrible financial choices.

Are not made using logic.

Let me explain.

I keep seeing people trying to make sense of an irrational situation.

Trying to understand why someone did X

When the obvious correct action was Y.

When X seemed like the most incoherent choice possible.

Yet that person still did it.

For example.

Why does someone deep in debt still decide to eat out?

Or keep buying things on Amazon.

With the same credit card they’re already paying interest on?

Or go on a weekend trip to the beach

when their mortgage payment hasn’t been made yet?

I bet you know people like that.

And I bet you get frustrated trying to analyze their behavior.

Trying to understand why they acted that way.

Unfortunately, I have bad news for you, my friend.

The illogical one is you.

Not them.

You’re the one spending time and energy.

Trying to apply logic where there is none.

Trying to make sense of something irrational.

And that, my friend.

That is a complete waste of time.

The most precious asset you have.

So, protect it.

Now, I have to admit.

I don’t blame you.

Maybe it’s the fault of your economics professor

Who taught you that people always act rationally.

When well… that’s not true.

Humans aren’t always rational.

In fact, quite the opposite.

We are quite emotional.

And so is our use of money.

When we feel tired.

Or lonely.

Or stressed.

Or overwhelmed.

We use money to compensate for those emotions.

(A bad tendency by the way.)

We buy things we don’t need.

And maybe can’t afford.

We delay hard financial decisions.

Or even worst.

We pretend that life is fine when it is not.

But don’t get confused.

That’s your emotions running the show.

Not your logic.

So, trying to analyze someone else’s irrational financial behavior.

Is illogical.

And probably something we need to let go of.

Accepting this will bring peace to your life.

And a lot more time.

Time that you can use for yourself.

Before you go.

You know, to start thinking about what you’ll do

With the extra time you just gained.

Remember this.

People don’t struggle with money because they’re bad at math.

Or because they’re not smart.

Almost always.

Money problems are emotional problems.

You know what you should do.

You just can’t get yourself to do it.

You know what you should do.

An emotional problem, disguised as a money problem.

Lastly.

Let me leave you with this quote.
